WALK AWAY FROM LOVE - DAVID RUFFIN
Okay, most of you, if you’ve seen my status updates at all, know I’m originally a Michigander. Growing up in Michigan, its very hard not to bump into Motown music. For me, Bob Seger and Motown were so indoctrinated into my vocabulary that I scarcely think of the 70’s without thinking of one or the other.
That brings me to my favorite voice in the Motown family, David Ruffin. Most will know him as the voice of “My Girl” and many other classics by The Temptations, but he did have some solo material to draw from as well. His ability to hit the high notes but jump right back to his rough gritty soulful style was incredible.
This song was on a Ronco album (Hit After Hit…see link below) I had…anyone remember those? They’d stick 20 songs on one album…the sound quality was horrible and the striped the songs down to under 3 minutes each (I remember the shock of hearing five minutes of Piano Man by Billy Joel, I thought it was one verse, one chorus and a fade!). I was very pleased to hear the rest of this song when I did. Great stuff…that has me singing along every time.
